Learning the secret of success from Back to the Future Trilogy.
At times, we can see things that happen in a movie come true in real life. A message that movie creators convey thorough their story can leave a strong impression on viewers making the impression come to life. Back to the Future influenced many people and still lives in the hearts of many. The people who created it are Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemerckis. The two working together has had positive influence in the world we live currently.
Spielberg sparked the imagination of many
Spielberg’s works have inspired many people. His words and the messages in his movies have moved people and have had a strong impact on the world. Many of his vision became actual history. He once said,
“I don't dream at night, I dream atday, I dream all day; I'm dreaming for living.” –Speilberg
Mastermind of visual effects, Robert Zemerckis
On January 23, 2016, the movie“The Walk”will be released in Japan. Robert Zemerckis will be in Japan on October 22nd to promote his film. He is known to be the pioneer with visual effects. He has produced many famous movies like Back to the Future, Forrest Gump and The Flight.
He said in an interview with Director Yamazkai that a great film is “balancing truth and spectacle.” Zemerckis feels that in his film there’s truth at the heart of it while showing it as a form on entertainment. Also, his movies are full of hope because as long as we live we hold onto hope.
The dream and the hope in Back to the Future
The dream and the hope we saw in Back to the Future are becoming a reality. As Marty and Doc travelled in time the audience were awed and inspired by things they saw. These things that were science fiction before are now becoming reality.
1. A miracle that occurs with one single sentence
In Back to the Future 1, Marty accidentally comes across his own father at a café in 1955. Like the father that he knows, in 1955 he is the same timid man that’s bullied by Biff. One African American restaurant employee comes over to lecture George Mcfly (father of Marty) to stand up for himself. He says, “Why do you let those boys push you around like that for? Stand tall, boy. Have some respect for yourself. You think I’m going to spend the rest of my life in this slop house? I’m going to make something of myself.“ Marty agrees and says something that will change the course of this man’s life. He says,“You will become a mayor someday”. Although, at that time it seems like and impossible goal, in 1984 Goldie Willson becomes the mayor of that city.
2. Overcoming discrimination
In 1990, David Dinkins become the first New Yorks’African American city mayor. He stated that New York is multicultural mosaic. This word means that we cannot really become one people. However, an event that changed all that occurs as we witnessed the first African American President.
Barack Obama’s acceptance speech
“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”
“It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled–Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are,
and always will be, the United States of America.”
“…we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, andwhere we are met with cynicism, and doubt, andthose who tell us that we can’t, we will respondwith that timeless creed that sums up the spiritof a people: Yes We Can.
The time machine that is headed to October 21st 2015
It is impossible for us now to get in a time machine and travel in time. However the images that were illustrated in Back to the Future 2 is becoming closer to reality.
Marty comes back from 1955 to 1985. But soon after he arrives, Doc puts him in the time machine again to save his son who is in trouble in the future. The date is set for 2015, October 21st.
There are many things that became true in 2015
2. Flying cars
3. Auto-fitting clothes
4. Holographic cinemas
5. Tablets and computers
6. Facial recognition and fingerprint technology
7. Pepsi perfect
8. Automatic dying clothes (Does not dry but ones with a fan)
9. Large flat screen TV
10. Video calling
11. Headsets for communication
There are things that are not main stream yet but most people have tablets and cell phones. Flat screen TV and facial recognition and video calling are a norm. We can say that things that were in Back to the Future came true. This movie was made in 1984. The things that were just a figment of our imagination do come true. I think this is one message the movie wanted to tell that dreams can come true. Therefore the important things is to have a dream. As Spielberg said,
“I don't dream at night, I dream at day, I dream all day; I'm dreaming for living.”
Dreams are always in our hearts and minds. What are your dreams?
If you had a time machine and you can travel in time, what will you tell your past self or your future self.Who knows, there might come such a day.
Let’s all dream big.
